Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to formally signal his 2027 presidential ambition on Thursday at a rally in Ibadan, where a political alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement will also be unveiled.
The event, tagged “Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026,” is scheduled for Mapo Hall in Ibadan South-East LGA. Organizers say it will serve as the launch of Makinde’s anticipated presidential bid and the unveiling of candidates for state and federal offices on the APM platform. da3f
According to party sources, leaders of the APM and a faction of the PDP led by Taminu Turaki are set to sign an alliance agreement ahead of the rally.
Among those expected to be presented are former Oyo Commissioner for Finance Bimbo Adekanmbi as the APM governorship candidate, alongside Stanley Olajide, Olufemi Ajadi, and Shina Peller as senatorial hopefuls
The rally follows months of political realignments in Oyo State, with several officeholders moving from the PDP to the APM ahead of 2027. Makinde’s allies say the alliance is aimed at strengthening grassroots structures and expanding his influence ahead of the next general election. da3f8ccb
While Makinde has not publicly confirmed his candidacy, support groups and associates have intensified calls for him to join the race. The gathering is expected to draw political stakeholders, youth groups, and supporters from across the South-West and beyond. 8ccb
