A lawyer, Vincent Adodo, has condemned the appointment of transition committees into the 33 Local Council Development Areas recently declared void by an Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure.
In its judgement delivered on the 20th June, 2024, the Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure presided over by Justice A.O. Adebusoye held that the creation of the 33 Local Council Development Areas did not follow the constitutional procedure in section 8(3) of the1999 Constitution and therefore declared them illegal and nullified them.
The State Government had filed an Appeal against the judgement at the Appeal Court Division in Akure and equally filed a Motion for stay of execution which is slated for hearing on the 18th July 2024.
While the Appeal processes were still pending, the State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on 11th June, 2024 announced the appointment of transition committees into the 33 LCDAs alongside the 18 Local Governments Areas.
In a statement released to THE CONCLAVE, Adodo described the conduct of the Governor as an act of contempt for the judgEment of the High Court and a usurpation of the judicial powers of the High Court and Court of Appeal.
The public interest lawyer rather suggested that the Government should set in motion processes for the conduct of elections into the 18 existing local government areas.
