Suspected Lakurawa terrorists launched a brazen attack on a church in Zagami village, located in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, abducting several worshippers during a Sunday morning service.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the terrorists, who arrived on motorcycles, stormed the church while worship was ongoing, firing sporadically to instill fear and chaos before seizing an undisclosed number of congregants and fleeing into a nearby forest.
One of the survivors, Ezekiel Danjuma, recounted the harrowing experience, stating: “It was terrifying.
“They came shooting and forced their way into the church. Some of us managed to escape through the back, but many others were taken.”
The attack has left residents of Zagami — a peaceful farming community in Kebbi South Senatorial District — in shock and mourning.
The district includes seven local government areas: Danko/Wasagu, Fakai, Ngaski, Sakaba, Shanga, Yauri, and Zuru.
As of press time, the police had yet to release an official statement on the incident.
Meanwhile, concerned residents are urging the Kebbi State Government and security agencies to take immediate action to secure the release of the abducted worshippers and enhance security measures in the region to prevent future attacks.
