The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources on Tuesday sealed a shopping complex and a public toilet facility over alleged improper waste management practices in different parts of the state.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the enforcement action in a statement shared on X.

According to him, a public toilet facility located on Offin Road was shut after operators allegedly channelled their septic tank contents directly into a drainage system, resulting in sewage overflow and offensive odour within the community.

Wahab described the act as a public nuisance and environmental pollution that poses serious risks to public health.

In a related development, the ministry also sealed COSJANE Mall along Festac Link Road in Amuwo Odofin for allegedly discharging untreated wastewater into public drains.

The commissioner stated that the enforcement followed several warnings to the mall’s management, which were not heeded.

He emphasised that releasing untreated wastewater into drainage channels constitutes environmental pollution and threatens residents’ health.

Wahab reiterated the ministry’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws and ensuring compliance with proper wastewater management standards across the state.
