The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a driver allegedly responsible for the death of a student of Lagos State University (LASU) in a fatal car accident in the Igando area of the state.
The command disclosed this in a statement posted on its handle on Saturday night.
It said an investigation into the incident had commenced.
It stated that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Igando promptly visited the scene.
The student’s body had reportedly been deposited in the mortuary.
Rwports said that the female student, identified simply as Azeezat, was crushed about 7:00 p.m. on Saturday in Igando.
A video circulating online showed some students storming the Area M Police Division, accusing officers of attempting to shield the driver and cover up the incident.
The protesting students demanded justice for the deceased.
Reacting, the police wrote: “The Command is aware of the incident, which is a fatal motor accident. Following the report, the DPO Igando promptly visited the scene.
“The corpse has been deposited at the mortuary, while the driver involved is in Police custody. The vehicle has also been impounded for further investigation. The case has since been transferred to the Area Command.
