United Nigeria Airlines has explained why its scheduled Lagos-Abuja flight, on Sunday, diverted to Asaba for landing.
In a statement issued by the Airline’s spokesperson, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, he clarified the circumstances surrounding the temporary diversion of flight NUA 0504.
Contrary to earlier reports, the company claimed that the diversion was due to poor weather conditions at the original destination.
The official statement, released by Uchegbu, Head of Corporate Communications, reads:
“United Nigeria Airlines flight NUA 0504, operating from the MM2 in Lagos en route to Abuja on November 26, 2023, was temporarily diverted to the Asaba International Airport due to poor destination weather. The pilot was fully aware of and briefed on this temporary diversion.
“However, a wrong announcement was made by the cabin crew upon landing safely in Asaba, creating confusion among the passengers.”
The airline reassured passengers that the aircraft subsequently landed safely in Abuja after an improvement in destination weather conditions
“Meanwhile, the aircraft has landed safely in Abuja following improvement in destination weather.”
The clarification provides a more detailed understanding of the sequence of events during the temporary diversion.
As United Nigeria explains the mishap that led to the diversion of its airline to Asaba, this incident serves as a reminder of the meticulous coordination required in the aviation industry and the need for continuous improvement in ensuring proper information by the cabin crew and accuracy of flight plans.
