A statement by Owen Chamberlain Obaseki on behalf of his siblings reads: “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Lady Deaconess Mrs Kate Imuetinyan Obaseki.

“She went to be with the Lord at 2:30 am on Monday, November 25th, 2024, at University College London Hospitals (UCLH), after a courageous battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) over the last few years.

“Throughout her final days, we held onto the hope of celebrating her milestone birthday in the coming months. Her five children, sister, and loved ones were blessed to spend her final 24 precious hours with her.

“In those moments, she expressed her gratitude, prayed for each of us, and offered words of encouragement, urging us to trust in God’s perfect will and sovereignty.

“Our mother is survived by her loving husband; five children; step-children; in-laws; 14 grandchildren; siblings; cousins; nephews; nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.

“In a testament to her extraordinary strength and resilience, the medical team at UCLH remarked that her survival for over three years beyond their initial prognosis was nothing short of miraculous. They described her as ‘a strong woman’ who defied expectations.

“Though her passing was not sudden, as she had prepared us for this day, we held onto hope as children of God. In His mercy, God added three whole years to her life, providing ample time for her to prepare and tie loose ends.

“We take comfort in knowing that she is now resting in the arms of the Lord. Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

“‘Thank you, Lord, for you give and you take away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.’ (Job 1:21)

“We kindly request your patience and understanding as we mourn privately.”

Meanwhile, the publisher and editor-in-chief of THE CONCLAVE, Mr Sufuyan Ojeifo, has commiserated with his friend, Owen, on the passing of his dearly beloved mother, describing the development as shocking and painful.

“I had prayed that Mama Owen would make it to over 90 as Mama Sufuyan, who recently passed, did, but it has pleased the Almighty God to call her home sooner than expected.

“Mama Owen’s death has diminished the tribe of good mothers imbued with expansively beautiful souls. She was a good mother, indeed, who affected her generation positively as well as defined the disciplined upbringing of her children.

“I pray that the Almighty God would rest her soul in His Bosom and grant Owen Obaseki, his siblings and their father, the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss of an Angel in human form.

“Adieu Mama Owen!”
