A 45-year-old labourer, Nwanneka Ogbonaya, has been confirmed dead after some blocks fell on him at a construction site in the Ikeja area of Lagos State.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident on Monday, September 30, 2024.
Hundeyin said the incident occurred about 4:30 p.m. at Opebi in Ikeja on Friday, September 27
Hundeyin disclosed that the elder brother of the deceased reported the case, adding that Ogbonaya worked at a construction site where the old building was being demolished to make way for a new structure.
The police spokesperson said: “The blocks suddenly collapsed on him and led to body injuries and unconsciousness.
“He was rushed to the Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) where the doctor on duty confirmed him dead.”
He added that an investigation into the incident was ongoing.
