National chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has lamented that the people of Edo state have been unfortunate not to have had visionary leaders.

Abure said this on Friday when he hosted, LP governorship hopeful in Edo, Stephen Osemwegie, the party’s secretariat in Abuja.

Osemwegie had informed him of his decision to secure the party’s ticket ahead of the 2024 governorship election in the State.

The chairman expressed optimism that LP will win the 2024 governorship election.

Abure said, “There is equally no doubt that for us in Edo state, we are the most unfortunate to produce leaders who have not worked for the people of Edo.

“I say so because if you take a cursory look at the history of the state, even during the military governments in Nigeria, the Edo people have been the most unfortunate. We got administrators not from that state and they never had the mind to develop it.

“When we also had democracy, it was also unfortunate. For us in Edo, we have never had the privilege of having a visionary committed, competent and compassionate leader that would be able to reposition Edo for greatness.

“That is why for me, the 2024 gubernatorial election in Edo is going to be a turning point in the history of Edo state. I say so because the Labour Party will take over the leadership of the state.

“We have strategically positioned ourselves and the party to be one that will rescue Edo state. Like he said, Edo is Obedient.”
