Former Kano State governor and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has responded to speculation that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf may be planning to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing party supporters in Kano, Kwankwaso warned that politicians who abandon the NNPP rarely succeed afterward.
He said recent developments in the party didn’t surprise him, even though he found them disappointing.
According to him, only a small number of members are considering leaving, and he urged supporters to advise them.
Kwankwaso praised the massive turnout at the gathering, saying it showed that the NNPP still enjoys strong grassroots backing despite reports that some leaders may be aligning with the governor.
He reminded those thinking of defecting that “no one who has betrayed us has ever prospered politically.”
The remarks come amid ongoing rumours that Governor Yusuf may leave the NNPP for the APC. Reports suggest he has been in consultations with political stakeholders, including lawmakers and local government leaders.
So far, the governor has not issued any official statement confirming the alleged plan, but some APC allies believe the switch could happen soon — regardless of Kwankwaso’s stance.
