A group, Voice of Reason, has emphasised the importance of healthy democratic practices and principles in fostering progress and development in society.
According to the group, these practices promote healthy competition, ensuring an equitable distribution of resources and power.
In Kogi State, the group’s views are particularly relevant, given the perceived lopsidedness in the state’s political landscape.
Kogi West, one of the state’s three senatorial districts, feels marginalised, having been denied the opportunity to produce a governor in the state’s 26-year democratic journey.
While Kogi East and Central have produced governors, with Kogi East’s Alh. Ibrahim Idris and Capt. Idris Wada serving for 12 years, and Kogi Central’s Yahaya Bello and Usman Ododo set to complete 12 years, Kogi West has been left out.
This perceived injustice has sparked calls for the district to be given a chance to lead the state.
The state’s infrastructure, healthcare, and education systems are in dire need of attention, with many areas in a state of disrepair.
The Voice of Reason group believes that ceding political power to Kogi West could be the solution to the state’s problems.
By giving Kogi West a chance to lead, the state can promote equity, fairness, and justice, and help to eliminate the mutual suspicion that pervades the state.
The group’s call is a reminder that healthy democratic practices and principles are essential for the growth and prosperity of Kogi State and its people.
