Dr Adeiza Abdulazeez, Commissioner for Health, represented by Mr Johnson Aiyedogbon, said the SWAp initiative aims to strengthen the state’s health system.

He noted the initiative would address funding gaps, workforce shortages, and poor data management that have long affected the sector.

Abdulazeez stated the training would equip health leaders with problem-solving skills and better decision-making capacity.

He praised the governor’s commitment to transforming the sector and pledged continuous efforts to improve health indices and data quality.

He described the initiative as a major step towards a more efficient and responsive healthcare system in Kogi.

Mr Luter Orkar, National Facilitator, Federal Ministry of Health, applauded Kogi for being the first state to cascade the training.

Orkar urged participants to show leadership, collaborate, and own the programme to achieve real transformation in the sector.

Dr Emmanuel Jonah, SWAp Desk Officer in Kogi, said the workshop was designed to build management capacity at all levels of care.

He added that the training focused on developing the 2026 Annual Operational Plan amid shrinking international health funding.

He reiterated SWAp Kogi’s commitment to improving health outcomes and reducing preventable deaths in the state.

Sixty-five participants from the state’s 21 local councils attended and described the workshop as highly impactful.

They pledged to cascade the knowledge gained to local levels for more effective health service delivery.

Partners praised the government’s commitment to health reform and assured continued support for the initiative.

Participants, including Mr Jatto Haruna and Mrs Esther Ajiboye, said the training shifted their perspectives and improved their planning capacity.

They promised to drive the successful implementation of SWAp in Kogi communities.
