The Nigeria Police Command for Kogi State on Thursday, February 8, 2024 confirmed the release of the 14 travellers that boarded God is Good Motors (GIG) and ABC transports bus from the South East and were heading to Abuja last week.

The released passengers were traveling in two buses when they were intercepted by kidnappers on Friday at Inele-Eteke Ogugu new road in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi state.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Kogi State command, SP William Aya, who confirmed the development, said the rescue operation was carried out by the combined efforts of the military, police, hunters and vigilantes.

The police did not however give the details of the release of the travellers particularly if ransom was paid to the kidnappers before their release.

SP Aya only said; “I can confirm that all the kidnapped victims of God is Good Motors and ABC transports have regained freedom.”

Recall that the GIG bus left Umuahia about 7:30am enroute Abuja but was hijacked along with the ABC bus by the dare devil kidnappers who abducted all the passengers and whisked them away into the bush.

Following the development, the Commissioner of Police for Kogi State, CP Bethrand Onuoha quickly deployed the Police Tactical Squad consisting of Quick Response Unit, Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit and conventional Police personnel in the forest to comb the bushes with a view to rescuing the victims.
