A University of Jos graduate, John Arum, who was abducted by suspected terrorists two weeks ago on the Jos–Kaduna highway, has regained his freedom and reunited with his family.

His release was confirmed Wednesday in Jos by Gad Shamaki, Global President of the UNIJOS Alumni Association.

“We are relieved and grateful to share that John Arum, our fellow Josite, has been safely released and is now back home with his family. This is a moment of thanksgiving,” Shamaki told reporters.

Arum was kidnapped alongside six other passengers while travelling from Jos to Kaduna. Viral videos later showed him being severely tortured by his abductors.

Shamaki said Arum needs prayers for “full recovery, strength and peace” and asked the public to remember others still in captivity.

“We also remember others still in similar situations and pray for their safe return,” he said.

The condition and whereabouts of the six other passengers abducted with Arum were not clear as of Wednesday.

Efforts to reach family members for further details were unsuccessful.

The Jos–Kaduna highway has seen repeated attacks and abductions in recent years.
