The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akwa Ibom has expressed worries over the kidnap of its party chief, Senator Nelson Effiong.

Effiong was kidnapped on Sunday night by gunmen who stormed his sit-out lounge on Sunday night.

The party called on the Department of State Services (DSS), Police and other security agencies to immediately swing into action to secure his release from his abductors.

APC’s State Chairman, Dr Ita Udosen, gave the charge on Monday night.

The State Publicity Secretary, Mr Nkereuwem Enyongekere said he had the authority of the state chairman to speak on his behalf.

He urged the agencies to also bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to justice.

The marching orders by the APC chairman came just as the Commissioner of Police, Mr Amangehere Andrew ordered a manhunt for the kidnappers and the immediate rescue of the former Senator.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko MacDon said the CP had ordered full-scale investigation into the kidnap incident.

He said that security drag nets should be spread wide across the state for the gun men.

A statement by the APC, made available to the media by the Publicity Secretary, stated in part: “Our party has been very worried and distressed to learn of the kidnap of Sen. Nelson Effiong, one of our strong Chieftains, who is also the immediate past Senator representing Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State.

“Today, the CTC Chairman, Dr. Ita Udosen has on behalf of the party urged the DSS, the Nigerian Police Force and other security outfits in the State to urgently swing into action to bring him back home safe while ensuring that those behind this dastardly act are made to face the full wrath of the law.

“The Party therefore advises Sen. Effiong’s family and the general public to liberally provide useful information to the security agencies to aide his rescue from the kidnappers’ den.

“The party will do everything in its power to secure Senator Effiong’s release while enjoining all our party faithful to continue to pray for his safe return to his family and our APC fold soonest.”
