Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Umar Abubakar Tafida, has moved to reinforce unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, declaring his continued commitment to the party’s success and the re-election bid of Governor Nasir Idris ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abubakar Tafida’s intervention comes days after the Kebbi APC chapter announced Ibrahim Muhammad Augie as Governor Idris’ new running mate, a development that had generated considerable interest among party stakeholders and supporters.
The party’s National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, announced Augie’s emergence last Sunday at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi, during a thank-you visit by stakeholders from the Argungu Emirate to Governor Idris.
Against the backdrop of speculation over the political implications of the decision, Abubakar Tafida, on Thursday, offered a strong message of reconciliation, loyalty and continuity, urging his supporters and APC members across the state to put the development behind them and close ranks for the party’s collective victory.

The Deputy Governor made the remarks shortly after a meeting with Governor Idris at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, where he reaffirmed his support for his principal’s re-election and pledged his commitment to the presidential ambition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
His position effectively reframes the transition as a matter of party organisation rather than a trigger for division, while projecting him as a statesman committed to the larger interests of Kebbi and the APC beyond personal political considerations.
Abubakar Tafida also expressed appreciation to the people of Kebbi State for what he described as their “unreserved love” and prayers throughout his tenure as Deputy Governor.
He urged his supporters to remain steadfast and continue contributing to the progress and stability of the state, stressing that his political engagement remains anchored on service rather than office.
“My door remains open to continue to contribute to the progress of our state,” he said.
