The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will swear in Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole as a new Supreme Court Justice on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 2 pm in Courtroom Two, Supreme Court complex, Abuja.
This appointment is a significant step in rejuvenating the judiciary, which has recently seen some justices retire due to mandatory retirement age.
Justice Oyewole brings a wealth of experience to the apex court, having served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal and Presiding Justice of the Enugu Division.
His appointment underscores Nigeria’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, ensuring justice, and strengthening the bench with experienced jurists.
The Supreme Court Director of Information and Public Relations, Dr. Festus Akande, emphasised that Justice Oyewole’s expertise and integrity will enhance the court’s capacity to deliver fair and timely judgments.
The ceremony marks another milestone in the judiciary’s efforts to maintain the highest standards of integrity, competence, and impartiality.
