Just In: Troops neutralize several terrorists, recover arms, ammunition in Sokoto

In a meticulously executed operation, troops belonging to the 8 Division Garrison launched a discrete offensive against a nefarious group of terrorists in Tukandu Village, Sokoto State.

This operation, carried out on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, yielded significant success, dealing a major blow to the insurgents responsible for a series of heinous activities in the region.

According to Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the troops launched a formidable assault, resulting in the neutralization of a substantial number of terrorists, with the remaining assailants fleeing the scene with gunshot wounds.

Subsequent mop-up operations proved fruitful, leading to the recovery of a cache of weaponry and ammunition.

He said the recovered items include three AK-47 Rifles, one PKT Gun, 125 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, two Rocket-Propelled Gun Bombs and nine motorcycles.

Nwachukwu said the timely and effective execution of this operation is attributed to the unwavering determination and resilience of the troops, who have been tirelessly committed to the safety and security of the Sokoto region.

Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, has commended the troops for their dedication and valor in this operation.

He emphasized the importance of remaining steadfast and continuing to escalate their efforts in the fight against terrorism, with the ultimate goal of decimating the terrorist threat and curtailing their freedom of action in the region.
