Just in: Senate confirms Service Chiefs after closed-door session

The Senate, on Thursday, confirmed the nomination of Service Chiefs by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after a closed-door session, which lasted for about two hours.

The Service Chiefs were grilled by the senators over the challenges of insecurity confronting the country.

The confirmation of the Service Chiefs came less than 48 hours after President Tinubu forwarded their nominations to the National Assembly.

Tinubu had written to the Senate requesting the confirmation of the newly-appointed Service Chiefs.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, who read the letter at the resumption of the plenary on Tuesday, said the Service Chiefs would be screened by the entire Senate in its chamber at a yet-to-be-announced date.

However, at the screening exercise on Thursday, the Service Chiefs were confirmed.

Those confirmed on were Major General C. G. Musa, Chief of Defence Staff; Major General T. A. Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral E. A, Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff; and Air Vice Marshall H.B. Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff.
