Just In: Police arrest political thugs, recover firearms ahead of voting in Edo guber election

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested two political thugs and recovered firearms in a series of overnight raids aimed at preventing electoral violence in Edo State ahead of the Saturday governorship election.

Confirming the report Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said Edwin Obanor, 43, and Audu Tajudeen, 41, a member of the PDP from Ugbogbo quarters in Igara Akoko, were apprehended following a tip-off about plans to disrupt the election. Obanor, a leader of an armed group, was arrested at Oredo Ward 4 around 9 p.m., while Tajudeen was taken into custody in Igara Akoko. Police found three locally fabricated pistols in Obanor’s possession and a locally made gun with Tajudeen.

He said the arrests underline the police’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful election. The suspects are currently in custody and will face legal action. Authorities have vowed to deal decisively with illegal arms bearers and troublemakers.

Adejobi encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities to local police stations or through designated helplines.
