In a bid to stave off moves by opposition parties to halt the collation of February 25 presidential election results anyhow, the All Progressives Congress and its candidate, Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, before the announcement of the poll result, dragged the parties through court.
The duo filed a suit to restrain the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party from preventing the continuous announcement and collation of the results of the poll.
Filed at the Federal High Court, Kano, the suit joined the Action Alliance and the Independent National Electoral Commission as defendants, while the APC Vice Presidential Candidate, Kashim Shettima, was listed as the plaintiff.
In a motion on notice filed alongside the originating summons, the plaintiffs were asking the court to make the order restraining the defendants from stopping the collation and announcement of the results.
They averred that “damages will not adequately compensate for the injury that may be occasioned on the Plaintiffs if by the Defendants stop the collation of the result.”
THE CONCLAVE reports that now that the poll result had been announced, the suit stands abandoned otherwise further pursuit of it amounts to mere academic exercise and waste of the Court’s previous time.
