A pro-Asiwaju Bola Tinubu movement in Ekiti State said on Tuesday that it was already late for the presence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate to alter the “people’s choice” in the June 18 governorship election.
The group, Asiwaju Reloaded Movement (ARM), said the people of Ekiti State had already made up their minds not to vote for the APC in the governorship election.
While assuring Tinubu of their unalloyed support ahead of the 2023 presidential election, the ARM said Governor Kayode Fayemi should be blamed for factionalising the APC and performing below expectations.
“Ekiti people have already adopted Chief Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as our Special Purpose Candidate, and he is being supported by the coalition of political stakeholders that cuts across political divides,” said the pro-Tinubu group.
According to ARM, in a statement on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti signed by a Co-Convener, Adeniran Kolawole, “our leader and candidate, Asiwaju Tinubu, should not dissipate energy or commit resources to the failed governorship bid of Gov Fayemi’s stooge.
“We want to apologise to Asiwaju Tinubu in advance that we, his supporters and the majority of Ekiti people will be working against the APC’s governorship candidate on June 18, 2022.
“It is on record and very sad that Gov Kayode Fayemi and his ‘Tokan-Tokan’ faction of the APC deliberately worked against those of us who are Asiwaju’s loyalists to the extent that they ostracised us from the local primaries.
“It is a shame that the same Fayemi and his stooges who betrayed Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the South-West and worked against his supporters in the Ekiti APC are now trying in vain to hoodwink the people and convey a different narrative because of their desperation to resuscitate the failed ambition of their candidate, Biodun Oyebanji.
“Except for Tinubu’s coming today, Fayemi never allowed the presence of Tinubu either through posters, billboards or media shows, to be felt in Ekiti State, despite his sacrificial contribution to his emergence as governor in 2010.
“Fayemi is the Traitor-In-Chief of the Southwest groups that led a major political conspiracy against Tinubu; he only made a detour and stepped down at the convention because he saw the writing on the wall in the last hours leading to the primaries.
“We urge Asiwaju to do his assessment; the people of Ekiti State, including the royal fathers, workers, labour unions, traders, market women, youths, teachers and farmers, have already made up their minds about voting Segun Oni.
“Interestingly and unlike Fayemi, this Segun Oni had demonstrated his Omoluabi principle when he was the Deputy National Chairman of the APC and refused to implement the plot hatched against Tinubu.
“Because he refused to connive with the anti-Tinubu elements in the APC, Segun Oni was denied the governorship bid of the party in 2018, as they ensured Fayemi won it,” the statement added.
