Journalist alleges threat to life over investigative report

The editor of the prominent Eyewitness Media (an online news platform), Adewale Adetoyese, has cried out to security agencies for protection over recent threats to his life.

The young professional who made the call through a statement made available to The Conclave on Wednesday at his office in Ile-Ife, Osun State, lamented that he has been receiving strange telephone calls from unknown persons threatening to deal with him if he dares continue with an Investigative report via his organisation.

According to Adetoyese, “Just yesterday, a man with baritone voice who gave his name as ‘Chief’ called to threaten me over an assignment that we have been on for about two months regarding a syndicate of child traffickers.

“Our investigation revealed that these persons recruit young girls between ages 14-18 to Osun State from the Middle belt and Southeastern part of the country for prostitution among other unlawful dealings.

“My decision to commence the broadcast of this devilish act to attract the attention of appropriate authorities towards apprehending these elements is however currently being met by countless threats which I receive on a daily basis.”

The journalist therefore called on the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to protect him from all forms of attack and harassment as he continues to discharge his legitimate duties.

“I am exercising my right as a citizen who wants the best for our country and I deserve to be protected by laws of the land from all forms of intimidation,” the journalist added.
