Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has applauded the Wellman Group for its remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s oil and gas industry as the company celebrated its 20th anniversary.
Speaking at a colloquium organized by the Group in Warri, Jonathan reflected on the company’s achievements and its role in fostering national unity and economic growth.
“I am pleased to have been part of Wellman Group’s colloquium today, where we not only celebrated two decades of its operations but also engaged in meaningful discourse about Nigeria’s unity, growth, and development,” he said.
The event attracted influential Nigerians and other African leaders who shared insights on the nation’s progress and challenges.
Jonathan specifically praised Wellman Group’s pioneering role in local content development within the oil and gas sector, particularly in its specialized niche of marine heavy lift services.
He acknowledged the company’s alignment with the objectives of the 2010 Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, which seeks to increase local participation and boost the country’s economic growth.
“The company’s laudable efforts, performance, and impact in the industry significantly bear out the vision of the NOGICD Act, which emphasizes enhancing local content and creating opportunities for Nigerians to thrive in the oil and gas sector,” Jonathan stated.
He further highlighted the importance of supporting indigenous businesses like Wellman Group in building a resilient economy and ensuring that Nigeria maximizes the benefits of its natural resources.
The Wellman Group, established in 2004, has become a leader in providing innovative solutions in the marine heavy lift business, contributing to Nigeria’s position as a key player in the global oil and gas industry. As it marked its two-decade milestone, the company reaffirmed its commitment to advancing local content and driving sustainable development in the region.
The anniversary colloquium served as a platform to celebrate the company’s achievements while fostering discussions on how collaboration and innovation can continue to propel Nigeria’s growth trajectory.
