The Jigawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a strong partnership with the media to advance accountability, transparency and awareness of its policies and programmes.

This is contained in a statement by Aisha Ahmed, the Secretary of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in Dutse on Wednesday.
Ahmed said the Deputy Governor of the state, Engr. Aminu Usman, gave the assurance when he received the executives of the NUJ state chapter during a courtesy visit.
She said that Usman expressed gratitude for the long existing cordial relationship between the state government and the NUJ.
According to her, the deputy governor also underscores the vital role of the media in promoting peace and stability, and the sustenance of democracy.
The secretary said the deputy governor expressed appreciation to journalists for their efforts in publicising the activities of the government.
“He also used the visit to highlight some of the achievements of the state government in various sectors including Agriculture, Education and Infrastructure,” Ahmed said.
According to her, Usman also expressed interest in visiting the NUJ secretariat to gain more insight into the operations of media professionals in the state.
Earlier, the NUJ Chairman, Mr Ismail Ibrahim, commended the state government for implementing policies that positively impacted on citizens and reiterated NUJ’s commitment to safeguarding press freedom and supporting journalists.
Ibrahim expressed the union’s commitment to upholding the Code of Ethics for Nigerian Journalists, as established by the Nigerian Press Organisation.
He further assured the deputy governor of the council’s commitment to collaborating with the state government to enhance the welfare of citizens.
The chairman also informed Usman that the union’s secretariat was in poor condition and required significant repairs and improvements, including furniture.
He requested for support for training and re-training of Journalists in the state to equip them with necessary skills in modern journalism profession for global best practices.
“The chairman solicited the assistance of the state government in acquiring a utility vehicle to facilitate its operations,” the secretary noted.
