It is time to bring Southeast into mainstream politics- Kalu

Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the endorsed candidate for Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has stressed the need to bring the Southeast geopolitical zone back into mainstream politics.

He assured all that he would work with his colleagues and stakeholders to ensure that the Southeast was at the center of national activities.

Responding to allegations of polarization by the APC government, Kalu reassured Nigerians that he was prepared for the task ahead and wouldwork diligently with others to build a strong and responsive 9th National Assembly.

As the potential most senior elected politician at the federal level, Kalu acknowledges the responsibility of his office and expresses his willingness to collaborate with stakeholders from the Southeast to bring the region back into prominence.

He said he believed that by showcasing efficiency and excellence, particularly as a youth leading the nation, it would encourage the agitating youths and instil belief in Nigeria.

Kalu also explains the vision of the incoming leadership, highlighting a joint task where various political parties come together to address Nigeria’s issues based on their diverse political ideologies.

He emphasized the importance of having a comprehensive perspective and a diversity-sensitive approach to provide effective solutions for the country.

He advocated a joint task between the executive, legislature, and judiciary, highlighting the need for collaboration and understanding while maintaining the principles of checks and balances and the separation of powers.

 

When asked about the burden of cementing the nation after years of polarization, Kalu confidently stated that he was prepared for the task.

He said that with his experience in politics and an understanding of national cohesion, he expresses his ability to bring unity and a sense of Nigerian identity, transcending tribal and regional divides.

Kalu’s mentality reflected a generation tired of divisions and saw every Nigerian as a brother, regardless of region or ethnicity.

While he acknowledged his responsibility to his region, he recognized that the role of Deputy Speaker was not limited to the Southeast alone.
