A former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has announced his interest in seeking the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the 2023 general elections.

He declared his interest in a terse statement, on Thursday, in which he insisted that the presidency should be zoned to the Southern part of Nigerua.

Read him: “May I also state clearly that I will be seeking the ticket of the PDP to contest the next presidential election.”

The immediate past governor of Ekiti State, took the opportunity of the statement to debunk the reports doing the rounds that he had endorsed a former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, for President on the platform of the PDP.

Fayose said the report credited to him that he had endorsed Obi and zoning of the Presidency to the South-East was false.

Read him again: “No doubt, I have great respect for Peter Obi as a leader and I respect his aspiration, but at no point did I endorse his presidential ambition or that the presidency be zoned to Southeast.

“Rather, my take is that the presidency be zoned to the Southern part of Nigeria.”
