Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made a startling accusation against Hezbollah, claiming the Iranian-backed militant group attempted to assassinate him and his wife.
In a statement shared on his verified Twitter account, Netanyahu described the alleged assassination attempt as a “grave mistake” and asserted that it would not deter him or the State of Israel in their ongoing fight against perceived enemies.
This incident highlights the escalating tensions between Israel and Iranian-backed groups, particularly Hezbollah, which has long been involved in hostilities against Israel.
Netanyahu seized the moment to deliver a clear message to Iran and its allies, labelling them part of an “axis of evil.”
“I say to Iran and its proxies in its axis of evil: Anyone who tries to harm Israel’s citizens will pay a heavy price,” Netanyahu warned, emphasizing that Israel’s resolve would remain unwavering.
He declared, “We will continue to eliminate the terrorists and those who dispatch them,” underscoring Israel’s commitment to not only target individual terrorists but also those who support them.
The Israeli Prime Minister also addressed the pressing issue of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, vowing to secure their release.
In the aftermath of the October conflict between Israel and Hamas, several Israeli civilians and soldiers were taken captive, raising widespread concerns about their safety.
Netanyahu has prioritized their return, stating, “We will bring our hostages home from Gaza.”
He reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to the security of its citizens living along the northern border, where Hezbollah maintains a significant presence and regularly poses threats to Israeli towns.
“We will return our citizens who live on our Northern border safely to their homes,” he stated, emphasizing the government’s dedication to ensuring safety in these vulnerable areas.
