Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has received a traditional title from worshippers during this year’s Isese Day celebration in Ibadan.
The colourful event, which took place on Wednesday at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, attracted thousands of devotees dressed in flowing white attires and traditional regalia.
Isese Day, observed annually on August 20, is set aside to honour Yoruba deities (Orishas), perform rituals, and celebrate the richness of the people’s cultural heritage.
During the ceremony, the worshippers expressed their gratitude to Governor Makinde for his open support of traditional religion and cultural preservation.
As a mark of appreciation, they conferred on him the name “Orisaseyi Omimakinde”, which translates to “the traditionalists’ oracle of prosperity.”
Prayers and libations were also offered to the Orishas, with calls for peace, unity, and prosperity across Oyo State. [GWG with rejigged headline]
