The Security Situation Room -the premium online, real time Security Tracking Platform in Nigeria, has demanded from Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Faruk Yahaya, that all soldiers seen in an online video on their online platform, brutally attacking unarmed students of the University of Benin be brought to book.
A statement issued by the Convener of the Platform, Douglas Ogbankwa,Esq., in Warri on Friday, 3rd February, 2023, said that
“The Security Situation Room has been inundated with complaints from members of the public about the reprehensible conduct of men of the Nigeria Army and Nigeria Air force formations in Edo State.
“The Security Situation Room observes with grave concern that Soldiers posted to formations all across Edo State are rudderless and their Commanders do not have a firm grip over them.
“Soldiers in Edo State now are even engaged as land speculators and debt collectors.
“Perhaps if men of the Nigerian Military exerted the level of force they unleash on innocent Nigerians on kidnappers, bandits, Boko Haram, ISWAP, gunmen, etc., these issues would have been a thing of the past in Nigeria.
“The incidence of Thursday, 2nd February, 2023 at the University of the Benin amounts to child’s play, compared to the various unlawful acts of the said soldiers, done with blatant impunity.
“Soldiers do not have a place in a civil environment according to our Laws and we call on the Chief of Army Staff to identify, isolate, arrest, investigate and arraign in a Court Martial all soldiers involved in the brutal attack on unarmed students of the University of Benin recently at the Ugbowo Campus and environs of the University.
“If this was not done, we will escalate this matter to the appropriate quarters and we will offer pro bono services to all victims involved to ventilatate the issues in Courts of competent jurisdictions, including the International Criminal Court (ICC).
“Members of the Public can reach us on douglasogbankwa@gmail.com, on information of how to bring the culprits to book. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice every where”.
