Internal Security: Police set to honour slain officers in Delta operation

• Confirm arrest of five suspects, as IGP orders immediate payment of entitlements to families

The Nigeria Police Force has expressed profound sorrow at the tragic loss of six (6) officers in Delta State, who demonstrated exceptional courage in the line of duty.

According to the Police , “These officers, while investigating the disappearance of three colleagues in the Ohoro Forest, Delta State, fell victim to a cowardly ambush by armed assailants, with six (6) others currently missing-in-action.

“Our thoughts are with the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officers during this period of deep mourning. We stand in solidarity with them, extending our deepest condolences and earnest prayers for the peaceful repose of the departed souls.”

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, identified the deceased officers as Inspector Abe Olubunmi (IRT), Inspector Friday Irorere (51 PMF), Sergeant Kuden Elisha (51 PMF), Sergeant Akpan Aniette (51 PMF), Sergeant Ayere Paul (IRT), and Sergeant Ejemito Friday (51 PMF).

Additionally, Inspector Onoja Daniel, Inspector Onogho Felix, Inspector Emmanuel Okoroafor, Inspector Joel Hamidu, Sergeant Moses Eduvie, and Sergeant Cyril Okorie are currently missing-in-action.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in honouring the memory of our fallen heroes, recognizing their bravery, dedication, and sacrifice,” he said.

Consequently, the Force said it would posthumously honour the slain officers at the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations Ceremony scheduled for April 5th, 2024, in Abuja.

In response to this grievous loss, Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reportedly taken decisive actions.

The bodies of six (6) slain officers have been recovered, with efforts ongoing to locate the other six (6) missing officers.

Olujobi said that the Inspector General had expedited the processing and payment of all entitlements due to the families of the fallen officers to ease any financial burdens they might face.

“Furthermore, immediate measures have been initiated to ensure swift justice for the perpetrators of this abhorrent crime.

“The Inspector General has mandated the deployment of resources and personnel to apprehend those responsible, leading to the arrest of five (5) suspects volunteering vital information for their capture.

:The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its commitment to responding decisively to the loss of its officers and men. Recent incidents, including the murder of SP Angbashim in Rivers State and the attack on the Police Command Headquarters in Adamawa State, underscore this commitment.

“The Force unequivocally condemns further assaults on Police Officers and urges officers to remain resolute in their lawful duties.

“The Inspector General calls upon the public to collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force by providing relevant information to ensure justice is served and peace prevails throughout the country.

“Together, we will honor the sacrifice of our fallen officers and uphold law and order in our society,” he stated.
