In a bid to sustain the momentum in the fight against crime and terrorism, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has recorded significant breakthroughs in several operations aimed at neutralizing threats to national security.

In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said on November 28, 2024, operatives attached to the Borno State Command repelled an audacious attack by armed terrorists on the Jakana Divisional Police Headquarters.

He said the attack, which occurred around 1:00 am, was launched by a group of unknown gunmen intent on overwhelming the station.

However, the officers on duty displayed exceptional courage and tactical expertise, engaging the attackers in a fierce gun battle.

Adejobi said the exchange left several terrorists with gunshot wounds, forcing them to retreat. One officer sustained injuries during the confrontation and is currently responding well to treatment.

The incident underscores the heightened threat in Borno State, which remains a hotspot for insurgent activities.

In another major operation, police operatives from the Sokoto State Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, conducted coordinated raids on multiple bandit hideouts across the state on November 25, 2024.

These raids targeted notorious black spots and criminal dens that had been used as bases for armed bandits terrorizing local communities.

Adejobi said the operation resulted in the recovery of several AK-47 rifles and magazines, each loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition.

Although the occupants of the camps managed to flee upon detecting the approach of security forces, the raids disrupted their operations, and efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend them.

In Delta State, operatives foiled a kidnapping attempt in Asaba on November 28, 2024. Acting on intelligence reports, the police launched a swift response to intercept the suspected kidnappers, who attempted to escape in a getaway vehicle. A high-speed chase ensued, culminating in a gunfight between the suspects and the police.

The suspects, overwhelmed by the superior firepower and tactical positioning of the police, abandoned their vehicle and fled into a nearby forest, sustaining gunshot wounds in the process.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 3 AK-47 rifles, 2 pump-action shotguns, 1 AK-47 magazine, 8 rounds of AR live ammunition and 21 live cartridges.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun commended the officers involved in these operations for their unwavering dedication to duty and their courageous efforts in the face of danger.

He highlighted the importance of such proactive measures in maintaining law and order across the country.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its mission to safeguard the lives and property of all Nigerians. These recent operations demonstrate our commitment to neutralizing criminal elements and ensuring that our communities are safe,” the IGP stated.

He further encouraged officers to remain vigilant and continue collaborating with other security agencies to dismantle criminal networks.

The IGP also reassured the public of the police force’s readiness to respond swiftly to any security threat, urging citizens to provide timely information that could aid in crime prevention and resolution.

The Nigeria Police Force continues to intensify its intelligence-gathering efforts and expand its community policing initiatives.

The IGP emphasized the critical role of public cooperation in the fight against crime, urging citizens to remain alert and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the designated emergency hotlines.
