Interior Minister Seeks Stronger Federal-State Partnership on Security, Governance

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to closer collaboration with state legislatures to advance reforms in internal security, governance, and public service delivery.

He gave the assurance on Thursday while receiving the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, led by its Chairman and Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, at the Ministry’s headquarters.

Tunji-Ojo commended the Conference for seeking institutional cooperation, describing state legislatures as “indispensable partners” in Nigeria’s governance architecture.

He said stronger federal-subnational collaboration is essential for lasting reforms in internal security and civic administration.

“The ministry remains committed to building productive relationships with state legislatures and will give due consideration to proposals presented by the Conference within the framework of existing government policies and national priorities,” he said.

The minister added that the Ministry will continue to pursue people-focused reforms to improve national security, enhance border management, and strengthen the integrity of internal governance systems.

Earlier, Guwor congratulated the minister on his “reform-driven leadership,” saying the initiatives reflect President Bola Tinubu’s confidence in him.

He noted that state legislatures, being closest to the grassroots, are strategically placed to support policies that directly affect citizens.

Guwor called for deeper collaboration with the Ministry in areas that promote national unity, reinforce security architecture, and improve service delivery.

He also pledged that State Houses of Assembly across the country will provide the legislative backing needed to advance the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
