Worried about the spate of kidnapping and other forms of criminal activities mostly in the South Western States, the Coordinator, Chief Friedrick Fasheun-led security outfit in Osun State, Oodua Peoples’ Congress, (OPC), Alhaji Leke Akintayo, popularly known as “Olojongbodu” has called on Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and other prominent Yoruba leaders to wade in and speak with one voice against the menace.
The OPC leader made this call while fielding questions from newsmen in Osogbo on Sunday.
Olojongbodu, who condemned in the incessant killing, wanton assassination and kidnapping by the herdsmen said it was now time for the Yoruba race to come together and protect the land.
He said they should not allow people with selfish interest to inflict pain on them.
The security guru said it was very imperative for Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and other distinguished Yoruba leaders to come together and speak with one voice on the need to find lasting solution to the issue of insecurity in Yoruba land, most especially the issue of herdsmen, which, according to him, had become very rampant in recent times.
His words: “Agreed that not all these herdsmen are criminal, but we want their leaders to know the numbers of their members coming in and out while they should also fish out the bad eggs and hand them over to security agencies as one of the solutions to the current issue.
“It is quite unfortunate that some bad elements have been terrorising the South West states, attacking some innocent citizens along our highways but we, OPC, would not allow them to
destroy our state.”
According to Olojongbodu, “one of the major objectives of OPC since its creation in 1994 is to protect the life and property of the Yoruba as a whole and we will not relent.
”Similarly, we are a law-abiding security group as we are always working in collaboration with the Police, DSS, Civil Defence, and all other para-military establishments to ensure we curb the menace of insecurity in Osun state.”
Olojongbodu, however, took the opportunity provided by the medium to commend Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State on his efforts to protect the citizens since he assumed the office, saying other state governors should borrow leaf from him.
