● As Troops neutralize 188, arrest 196 suspects, rescue 133 kidnapped hostages in a week
The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, on Friday, reassured Nigerians that the nation’s armed forces and other security agencies were working decisively to kill the terrorists, stop the insecurity and ensure the safety of citizens in all the nooks and crannies of the country
This was contained in a statement in Abuja by Director, Defence Media Operations DMO, Major General Edward Buba on the ongoing Military Operations as of April 12 this year by the Armed Forces of Nigeria, AFN, and other security agencies in the various theatres of operations across the six geo-political zones of the country against insurgency activities
According to the statement, “accordingly, we are making the terrorist pay a much heavier price than ave been forced to pay. Troops will continue to operate with tremendous force against the terrorist across the country.”
The statement explained that during the week under review, troops neutralized 188 terrorists and arrested 330 persons.
The statement added that the troops also arrested 36 perpetrators of oil theft and rescued 133 kidnapped Hostages while in the South-South troops denied the oil theft of the estimated sum of N637,710,310.00
According to it, ” furthermore, troops recovered 270 assorted weapons and 5,083 assorted ammunition.
” The breakdown as follows: 122 AK47 rifles, 47 locally fabricated gun, 47 dane guns, 24 automatic pump action guns, 8 locally fabricated pistols, 2 locally made single barrel guns, one double barrel gun, one hand grenade and one IED.
” Others are: 2,129 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 1,686 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 116 rounds of 9mm ammo, 133 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ball ammo, 151 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammo, 619 live cartridges, 34 magazines, 8 HH radios, 8 vehicles, 40 motorcycles, 6 bicycles, 50 mobile phones and the sum of N610,210.00 amongst other items.”
It further added that the troops in the Niger Delta area discovered and destroyed 51 dugout pits, 24 boats, 21 storage tanks and 4 vehicles.
“Other items recovered incl 28 cooking ovens and 21 illegal refining sites. Troops recovered 672,350 litres of stolen crude oil and 90,530 litres of illegally refined AGO.:
It reiterated that” the military is in a good and strong position in the war against terrorist with many terrorist leaders killed, adding that” we will continue to provide security for citizens with the tools at our disposal.”
On the activities of the “JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION HADIN KAI (NORTH EAST), the statement explained that the “Troops of Operation HADIN KAI recorded the following activities during the period under review; conducted offensive operations, arrested ISWAP/JAS combatants and collaborators.”
According to it, “The theatre recorded the surrendering of BH/ISWAP terrorists combatants and theirs families in Damboa, Biu, Guzamala, Monguno, Dikwa, MMC, Mafa, Konduga, Gwoza, Bama and Geidam LGAs in Borno State.
” Surrendering was also recorded in Madagali, Gujba and Geidam LGAs of Yobe State.”
The statement added theTroops of Operation SAFE HAVEN in the North Central recorded the following during the period under review while the. Troops arrested violent extremists/kidnappers, raided hideouts of violent extremists and conducted counter/anti kidnapping operations in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Jos South, Qua’an Pan, Bassa, Riyom and Shedam Local Government Areas of Plateau State
It added that the Troops of “JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION DELTA SAFE (SOUTH SOUTH) maintained momentum against the activities of crude oil theft as Troops destroyed several illegal refining sites and recovered stolen products.
According to it, “Troops also conducted fighting patrol, offensive and raid operations as well as arrested suspected violent extremists/bunkerers and kidnappers collaborator in Degema, Ahonda, Onne and Okrika LGAs of Rivers State as well as Oron and Uyo Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State.
It further explained that the Troops “OPERATION WHIRL STROKE (NORTH CENTRAL) recorded the following during the week under review; troops responded to activities of suspected violent extremists/kidnappers, conducted fighting patrols, offensive operations and counter/anti kidnapping operations in Nasarawa Eggon, Toto, Nasarawa, Keana and Karu LGAs of Nasarawa State as well as Ukum and Gwer West LGAs of Benue State. Additionally, Takum and Ussa LGAs of Taraba State
Account to the statement, the troops of the JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION WHIRL PUNCH (NORTH WEST) recorded the following during the week under review. Troops responded to violent extremists activities, rescued kidnapped hostages and conducted fighting patrol Zango Kataf and Giwa LGAs of Kaduna State as well as Kogi and Lokoja LGAs of Kogi State. Troops equally combed , Kuje Area Council of FCT Abuja.
It stated that all the arrested suspects and recovered items have been handled over to the appropriate agency for further action
