CAN had stated that Christmas was a sacred season symbolising purity and redemption, and that associating it with the word “dirty” undermined its spiritual meaning for millions of believers.

The association urged Ini Edo and the movie’s producers to reconsider the title, apologise publicly, and treat sacred celebrations with the respect they deserved.

Taking to her Instagram page, Ini Edo clarified that the film’s title was metaphorical, designed to reflect the story and the themes explored, and stressed that she was a devoted Christian.

She affirmed that she would never knowingly engage in a project that disrespected her religion or the essence of Christmas.

The actress stressed that she was a devoted Christian and her faith was deeply personal to her, hence why she would never knowingly associate herself with any work that sought to misrepresent, disrespect, or undermine her religion or the essence of Christmas.

She acknowledged the concerns raised by CAN, expressing respect for the role of faith in society, but also encouraged fans to focus on the film itself.

“My beautiful people, let’s not be distracted. The film is a masterpiece. Please come out to watch and support your girl,” she wrote.
