Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, is reportedly on the verge of defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Barrister Sani Marke, Special Adviser to the Governor on Legal Matters, the move is aimed at accelerating development and fostering political stability in the state.
Marke described the potential defection as a “bold and strategic move” that reflects the governor’s commitment to Taraba’s growth over partisan interests.
“Governor Agbu Kefas has once again proven that he is a true patriot who puts the interest of Taraba first,” Marke said in a statement.
He said: “His decision to align with the centre is not about political convenience but about expanding opportunities for our people.”
The Special Adviser praised the APC leadership for warmly welcoming Governor Kefas’ move, citing the party’s readiness to work across party lines for Taraba’s progress.
He urged all Taraba people to rally behind the governor, emphasising that the defection marks the beginning of a new era of growth and political harmony in the state.
● APC leadership welcomes Governor Kefas
The APC leadership in Taraba State and the North East zone has extended a warm welcome to Governor Kefas.
Prominent APC members, including Senator David Jimkuta, Barrister Uba Maigari Ahmadu, and Senator Sani Abubakar Danladi, have commended the governor’s decision, describing it as a step towards inclusive governance and development.
Marke reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Kefas, pledging to mobilise support for his political agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defection is seen as a significant blow to the PDP, which has dominated Taraba State politics since 1999.
