In a major shakeup, Nigerian army approves new postings, appointments

In what appears to be a major shakeup since the appointment of the current Chief of Army Staff (COAS), the Nigerian Army (NA) has released postings and appointments of some affected senior officers.

According to Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, the posting which was approved by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru was a normal routine aimed at re-invigorating the system.

He said the major highlights of the postings and appointments included the posting of Major General AS Maikobi from Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) to Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command as Commander; Major General DC Onyemulu from Armed Forces Simulation Centre to Special Task Force (Operation SAFE HAVEN) as Commander; Major General SA Yaro from Nigerian Army Welfare Limited by Guarantee to Nigerian Defence Academy as Commandant; Major General LA Adegboye from Headquarters 82 Division to Defence Headquarters as Chief of Defence Training and Operations; Major General OI Uzamere from Army Headquarters Department of Army Logistics to Headquarters Infantry Corps Centre as Commander; Major General OF Azinta from Defence Headquarters to Army Headquarters Department of Army Training as Chief of Training; Major General JB Olawumi to remian in Defence Headquarters as Chief of Defence Logistics; Major General CO Ude from Defence Headquarters to Nigerian Army Training Centre as Commander; Major General G Oyefesobi from Defence Intelligence Agency to Headquarters Command Army Records as Commander; Major General BM Shafa from Defence Research Development Bureau to Army Headquarters Department of Army Transformation and Innovation as Chief of Transformation and Innovation; Major General KAY Isiyaku from Defence Headquarters Garrison to Headquarters Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery as Corps Commander Artillery.

He said all postings and appointments would take effect from 10 March 2021.

Yerima said the Chief of Army Staff urged the newly posted senior officers well in their respective formations/units and asked them to carry out their responsibilities in the most professional manner and absolute loyalty to the Commander- in -Chief and in defence of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
