• Charges SPU Commnaders on professionalism, ethical conducts
The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday 12th of September, 2023 had the privilege of receiving His Excellency Ambassador Michael Freeman, the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, and his accompanying delegation in his office in Abuja.
According to Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP took the opportunity to brief the Ambassador about the new Nigeria Police Special Intervention Squad (SIS) which is the pet project of the IGP to tackle crimes and criminality, including violent crimes across the country.
The IGP encouraged the Ambassador to explore avenues for collaboration in key areas such as training and retraining, sharing of ideas, intelligence gathering, and enhancing the capacity of law enforcement personnel.
In response, Ambassador Freeman expressed his gratitude to the IGP and pledged the support of the Israeli government in enhancing the policing system in Nigeria.
Among the notable attendees at this meeting were the Deputy Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Inbar Lipman Garden, members of the Police Force Management team, and senior officers from the Nigeria Police Force.
In a related development, the Inspector-General of Police also addressed commanders of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) on the importance of professionalism and dedication in executing their escort and guard duties, which are within their statutory responsibilities.
This address took place at the IGPs conference Hall, 7th Floor, Louis Edet House, FHQ, Abuja.
The IGP emphasized the need for the unit’s personnel to refrain from engaging in reckless, inappropriate, or illegal activities while on duty, such as improper attire, excessive use of force, and intoxication.
He warned that any unethical behaviour would result in disciplinary action by the Force to preserve its image and reputation.
