The Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr Benson Ayodele, has inaugurated the rehabilitation of two public boreholes to improve residents’ access to potable water.
Ayodele said on Tuesday in Imota, Lagos State, that the initiative formed part of activities marking his birthday.
He said the project reflected his administration’s commitment to implementing projects that directly impact the lives of residents.
The chairman said the rehabilitation would cover two non-functional boreholes located in Itun-Opopo and Oriokuta communities.

“The rehabilitation exercise will cover two strategic boreholes located in Itun-Opopo and Oriokuta communities in Imota LCDA.
“Engineers and technical personnel have already been directed to assess the affected facilities and commence repair works without delay.
“We will ensure that only durable materials and quality equipment are used to guarantee their long-term functionality,” he said.

The chairman said several public boreholes in the council had become non-functional due to poor maintenance and technical faults.
He added that restoring them would ease the hardship residents faced in accessing clean water.
According to him, the four councillors representing the wards in the council will also construct boreholes in their respective wards ahead of the administration’s first anniversary.
“Access to clean water is a basic necessity for healthy living and sustainable community development.
“Our administration will continue to invest in projects that improve the welfare and quality of life of our people,” he said.
Some stakeholders at the event commended the chairman for prioritising the provision of potable water.
Reacting to the development, a resident, Mrs Kafilat Agbede, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the initiative was timely.
She said many households had struggled to access potable water following the breakdown of public boreholes.
“This project will bring relief to many families, especially women and children who travel long distances daily in search of water.
“We appreciate the chairman for listening to the needs of the people,” Agbede said.
Another resident, Mr Rasheed Adebayo, commended the council for prioritising residents’ welfare.
“Water is one of our greatest needs.
“The rehabilitation of these boreholes and the plan by councillors to construct additional ones show that the administration is responsive to the needs of the people,” Adebayo said.
