●Debunks reports of his withdrawal for Uzodinma
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in Imo State, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has dismissed as fake a viral video announcing his stepping down for Governor Hooe Uzodinma ahead of Saturday’s election.
Anyanwu said the viral video was edited to manipulate and deceive the electorate in the state.
In a statement by the Director of his campaign council, Dumebi Ifeanyichukwu, on Friday, Anyanwu urged people of the state to ignore the video.
He linked the fake video to mischief makers.
The statement reads: “The SamJones Governorship Campaign Council is compelled to address a malicious video circulating, falsely claiming that our esteemed candidate, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, has withdrawn from the gubernatorial race.
“We emphatically state that this information is categorically FALSE. After a thorough examination of the video, it became evident that it was heavily edited with manipulated audio to mislead the public.”
Anyanwu will face the incumbent governor, Hope Uzodinma, in a keenly contested governorship election on Saturday.
The PDP candidate had expressed optimism to claim power from Uzodinma.
