A Nigerien national has died after he was allegedly shot by an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service at the Burdugu border checkpoint in Baure Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Sources said the incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. on February 3, 2026, when Inspector Tijjani Mai Kaho attempted to stop a motorcycle rider, identified as 30-year-old Dari Bace Bace from Bace Bace village in Niger Republic, for routine border checks.
The rider reportedly failed to stop, prompting the officer to open fire. The victim sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to the General Hospital in Baure before being referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Daura, where he later died.
The officer involved is currently at large, while the Katsina State Police Command has launched an investigation into the shooting.
