Desmond Elliot has publicly apologised to Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Tinubu, for his role in the failed bid to impeach Mudashiru Obasa as Lagos Assembly Speaker.

The Surulere 1 lawmaker made the apology Friday on TVC’s “Let’s Talk”calling Gbajabiamila his political mentor and “daddy.”

“I know media will come out and say eh, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon, and I grew up learning everything I know in politics through him,” Elliot said.

“He might be upset for something or whatever it was. I’m human, and to err is human, to forgive is divine. So, I’m sorry, my daddy, if I have offended you in any way.”

The apology comes after Gbajabiamila said Thursday that he nearly lost his job during last year’s Lagos Assembly speakership crisis.

In January 2025, Obasa was impeached by a majority of lawmakers over allegations of gross misconduct while he was abroad.

Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda stepped in as the first female Speaker.

Obasa rejected the move on his return and challenged it in court. After 49 days, Meranda resigned and Obasa was reinstated following Tinubu’s reported intervention.

The court later nullified the proceedings that ousted him.

Elliot also denied masterminding the impeachment attempt, saying he was in South Africa for his sister-in-law’s wedding when it went down.

“I was actually beyond shocked. During the period, my wife’s younger sister was having a wedding in South Africa. So, I was in South Africa when that happened,” he said.

He said he initially believed the move had backing from the presidency but stressed he wasn’t involved.

“I? masterminding? That was really shocking to me… I wasn’t the mastermind of it,” Elliot said, adding he won’t speak ill of someone he served under for 11 years.
