Lami Odiniya, mother of Big Brother Naija winner Ilebaye, says her ex-husband Emmanuel Odiniya has been released from police custody after a family altercation that went viral on Friday.

Mr. Odiniya was detained at Wuye Divisional Police Station following a livestream showing Ilebaye distressed with a swollen face while her father stood nearby.

Lami said the confrontation happened when Ilebaye visited her father’s home to see her younger brothers and discuss plans ahead of her 24th birthday on 9 May.

She said the discussion turned into an argument after Mr. Odiniya allegedly accused Ilebaye of being influenced by her mother.

The incident has brought renewed attention to the family’s strained relationship since the couple’s 32-year marriage ended.

Lami said a court had earlier granted Mr. Odiniya custody of their two sons, aged 11 and 14.

After his arrest, the boys were temporarily released to her care.

Police later directed that they be returned to their father’s residence in line with the court order.
