The Asiwaju of Ikire Land, Balogun Bola Oyebamiji, has commiserated with indigenes and residents of Ikire land on the recent flood, which ravaged the ancient town and destroyed property worth millions of Naira.
Mr Oyebamiji, who described the incident as calamitous and sad, expressed pains at the level of loss and hardship the natural disaster had caused the people of the ancient town.
The Asiwaju’s message was contained in a letter of commiserations to the Akire of Ikire Kingdom, Oba Olatunde Falabi, which was made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Wednesday.
Balogun Oyebamiji urged the monarch and the entire residents of Ikire to see the incident as an act of God.
He encouraged them to put their faith in Allah, “who replaces loss with goodness in manifolds.”
The statement read in part, “I am indeed pained by what has happened to my beloved town. It is a natural disaster and who are we to question God? I commiserate with our father the Akire, His Royal Majesty Oba Olatunde Falabi, the Akire in council, and all Ikire sons and daughters affected directly or indirectly by the flood.
“Being an agrarian community, I and others have lost farm produce worth millions of Naira. Some people lost their homes and other means of livelihood. We thank God that no lives were reported to have been lost.
“I urge my people to put their trust in Allah to grant them Succour after this Hardship.
“I hereby call on the Osun State and the Federal government as well as other well-meaning Nigerians to come to our aid.”
