Ahead of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebration, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed the implementation of stringent security measures nationwide.
This move is aimed at ensuring a peaceful and safe environment for citizens to mark the historic occasion.
According to Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, IGP Egbetokun has ordered the deployment of additional personnel and tactical units to secure key venues and major highways, in coordination with other security agencies. The enhanced security operations will focus on preventing any threats to lives, property, and the smooth conduct of the celebrations.
In his message to the public, the IGP extended his warm congratulations to all Nigerians, urging them to reflect on the nation’s journey, successes, and challenges. He called for a renewed commitment to national unity, peace, and respect for the rule of law, reminding citizens of the sacrifices made by Nigeria’s founding fathers.
IGP Egbetokun assured that the Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard the nation’s security and ensure a peaceful coexistence. He called on officers deployed during the celebrations to exercise both firmness and courtesy in their interactions with the public, while reaffirming the force’s dedication to professionalism, integrity, and compassion in service.
