In response to the recent surge in criminal activities, particularly the alarming incident of abduction in the Federal Capital Territory, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, convened a pivotal meeting on Monday, with the Force Management Team and Tactical Squads.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer at Force Headquarters in Abuja, disclosed these developments to the public.
He said the meeting was aimed at strategizing and implementing accelerated operations to tackle the growing concerns of insecurity in the country.
Adejobi said the professional and strategic measures discussed during the meeting reflect the commitment of the Nigerian Police to addressing and mitigating the rising challenges of insecurity in the country.
Expressing deep concern over the unfortunate events, IGP Egbetokun emphasized the urgency of taking decisive action to address the escalating security challenges.
According to the Force PRO, the meeting focused on a comprehensive review of current security issues, strategic planning, and the deployment of tactical resources to effectively counter emerging threats.
A key emphasise during the meeting was the necessity for a coordinated and intelligence-driven approach to confront the evolving security landscape.
Tactical squads received briefings and were directed to intensify efforts in deploying proactive measures to prevent criminal activities and safeguard citizens, Adejobi said.
IGP Egbetokun, while reassuring Nigerians, particularly residents of the Federal Capital Territory, of enhanced security measures, issued a directive to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Department of Operations, to personally coordinate the implementation of heightened security strategies. The goal is to dismantle criminal networks, particularly kidnappers, and swiftly restore normalcy in the FCT.
In addition to operational strategies, the IGP underscored the importance of community engagement and collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Gathering information, building trust, and fostering a collective effort in combating criminal elements were highlighted as crucial aspects in the overall strategy to enhance security, Adejobi disclosed.
