IED ambush kills two soldiers, wounds three in Sokoto terror raid

Two Nigerian soldiers were killed and three others injured Monday night after troops of the 8 Division ran into a well-coordinated ambush in Isa Local Government Area, intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama.

—The Firefight, Then the Trap—

At 10:00 p.m. on June 30, troops deployed in Forward Operating Base, FOB Tidibale, responded to reports of terrorist activity in Tagirke Village.

They engaged the terrorists, forced them to retreat, and began withdrawing. That’s when the trap snapped shut.

“While withdrawing from the area, the troops ran into a well-coordinated ambush by the fleeing terrorists,” the sources said.

One of the military gun trucks hit an improvised explosive device, IED. The blast killed two soldiers instantly and injured three others.

—Casualties Evacuated, Truck Recovered—

The bodies of the fallen troops were evacuated to the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, UDUTH, morgue in Sokoto. The three injured personnel were stabilised at the 8 Division Medical Services and Hospital.

The damaged gun truck was later recovered and towed back to FOB Tidibale for further action.

Military sources said troops have “intensified efforts to track down the terrorists and recover the missing weapons” while sustaining offensive operations across Isa LGA.
