Comfort Emmanson, the woman at the centre of the recent Ibom Air controversy, said after her release from Kirikiri Prison that all she wanted just now was rest.
In an emotional Instagram post, Emmanson thanked Nigerians for their prayers and support during her ordeal.
“I’ve been released from the prison, but I’m still in pain due to how I was treated,” Comfort Emmanson wrote.
“I just need some rest and medical treatment before I give out my own version of the event. Thank you so much, my lovely friends and supporters. I really appreciate y’all from the bottom of my heart. God bless y’all. THANK YOU MY GREAT GOD!!!”
Her arrest and imprisonment followed an incident aboard an Ibom Air flight, where she was accused of assaulting a crew member.
The confrontation led to her being stripped publicly, arraigned in court, and remanded in prison — treatment that sparked public outrage and accusations of double standard in Nigeria’s justice system.
After days of pressure from human rights groups, public figures, and the Nigerian Bar Association Women’s Forum — which condemned the “degrading treatment” she endured — Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo ordered the withdrawal of the complaint against her.
Keyamo noted that Emmanson had expressed “great remorse” during a police interview conducted in the presence of her lawyer.
