FCT Minister admits failure on cattle menace, says govt has recorded progress on infrastructure but “we are not saying we have done 100%”

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has apologised to residents over the continued presence of roaming cows on Abuja’s major roads and streets.

Wike spoke on Friday during his monthly media briefing, taking personal responsibility for the lingering cattle menace in the nation’s capital.

“I apologise that up till now there are cows still roaming the streets of Abuja, I take responsibility,” the FCT Minister said.

He acknowledged that despite ongoing efforts to improve the territory, stray cattle remain a concern for residents and motorists.

—Infrastructure push vs unfinished work—

Wike, however, said the FCT administration has recorded significant progress on infrastructure and service delivery, with projects extending beyond the city centre to satellite towns and rural communities.

“I’m not saying the government has done everything. But if you are really a resident in Abuja, can you, in truth, say you don’t feel the impact of this government?” he asked.

“Forget about your sentiment, forget about, I want my village man to be president, forget about, I want my state man to be the president. If you are really staying in Abuja, would you say this government has not made any impact?”

—No 100% claim—

The minister stressed the administration was not claiming to have solved all FCT challenges.

“We are not saying we have done 100%. If we have done 100%, we don’t need to say, ‘okay, give me another opportunity’. But there is hope,” Wike added.

He urged residents to assess the administration based on visible projects rather than political sentiments.
